This mural was created in collaboration with the children and parents of Ludworth school in Marple. The children were doing a project on world food so I had the idea of creating an international market scene. As they created the pieces I start to build a rough layout on the floor of what the whole scene would look like and that really helped them visualize the outcome helping them think for themselves as to what they wanted to add to the scene next.
The children glued lots of different images they created onto one sheet of acid free white tissue this acts as a backing holding all the little elements together.I have found that some children really love to do lots of tiny details. This technique with the tissue helps them from getting lost or damaged.
Back at the studio.
Back in the studio I glue three rolls of good quality wallpaper lining together and tape it down to the floor, then I start to build the image from all of the childrens elements. This is really good fun it is a bit like live photoshop.
I start to glue down, paint into and add areas of very fine glitter.
On completion the whole image is covered in a couple of layers of good quality PVA glue.
