about me

This project linked directly to a project the children were working on at school with their teacher Claire Kelly. The study of rainforest insects and their habitat. The children were reading
Journey to the river sea by Eve Ibbotson,
which had really ignited their imaginations and desire to come up with incredible descriptive creative writing along with making field journals of their chosen or imaginary bug.The art project of making gaint paper mache bugs came in at the end.I sent the children pictures of progress with all of my prep work to get them excited and thinking about what they were going to do themselves.
The final outcome would become a wonderful display in the school showcasing all of the work they had done for this project.

For all of the instructions for this project I followed Julie Voight's fantastic Blog.

Step one.
Creating the bug body shapes from newspaper screwed up and
packed into solid shapes, then covered in masking tape.

After covering the bugs with masking tape it is time to paper mache with newspaper.

step three

Now your bug need a coat of Gesso. This dries hard and creates a nice ground for you to paint on.
